When the Other One Gets Everything

I am not the type of person who sits around complaining when things don`t go my way but sometimes the truth needs to be told. I`ve never been known as “spoiled,” or have gotten everything my way. In fact, I am just the opposite. I guess I am what you call “cast away.” You see, Ive had my share of rough times and always overcame them on my own. But it is just the simple fact that no one cared which hurt most.

Growing up I did get some things, more than most kids had gotten, but I didn`t get as much as “the other one.” Does it feel good to be yelled at for wearing the same clothes with holes in them, the only clothes you would get for me? But what about “the other one” that gets to wear Old Navy, Abercrombie, American Eagle, and look as if she`s getting ready for a fashion show. And people wonder why I`m crazy.

Now let`s not even get into the whole vehicle problem. How do you think it feels when you get your car sold because is dad is juiced up on Oxy`s, not knowing what he is thinking. Or when you get the only other method of transportation taken from you for being nice and giving someone a ride home when he shouldn`t even have been around me in the first place. It`s not the fact that I`m a complainer, but when “the other one” is getting a fancy car, while I`m walking everywhere that I go. How would it make you feel?

Now I could buy anything I need and always could have but when no one gets you anything and “the other one” gets a laptop computer, an I-Pod, any cd, and any pair of shoes that she wants. How would you feel? Would you feel good when “the other one” is living in luxury waiting for her next pair of shoes while I`m living in an abandoned apartment across the street. Or how would you feel living with a gay dude and getting screamed at every five minutes from someone that is supposed to be your friend. Would it make you happy?

The point is that some things in life are unfair and you may feel that there is no way out. But I am here to tell you that you can make it! Don`t get upset over the little things because someone, somewhere has it worse than you do. Fight the battle head on because you know that you are going to win. It might not happen right away but eventually the results will start paying off. Until next time, later!

Is your New Year’s Resolution Working

Every January millions of people make a New Years Resolution only to find a few weeks into the New Year, they are unable to stick to it. Are you a statistic this year or have you made a difference to your life.

Every year at this time of the year you see people who have started their New Year’s Resolutions. People have gone on a diet, started an exercise regime, given up smoking or decided that they will change their life in some way.

They have the motivation to start & have high expectations that this year it will work for them. They get up early & start walking the dog 5 days a week or start the latest diet craze. The first week is so easy. Your motivation is high & you feel great because you have started to follow through on your planned resolution.

Week 2 comes along & you think, I’ve been good for a week, one bad day won’t hurt me & the truth is one bad day won’t hurt you. It is the day after your bad day that will determine whether you will succeed with your New Year’s Resolution. If you overcome your bad day you make it to the next week.

By now you are at week 3, if you have made it this far you are doing great. You would already be feeling the effects of your new regime & will be feeling proud of yourself that you have stuck to your program.

But now you have to keep going. You start to realise that you really need to make a lifestyle change to keep your New Year’s Resolution. Are you prepared to make that change. If you are you will never look back. They say it takes 30 to 60 days to change a habit so stick to your program whatever it may be if you truly want to make this years Resolution Work.

If you have started a New Year’s resolution & are finding it hard to stick to or have already given up, think about giving it another go, you never know if you try hard enough, you may not have to make the same resolution next year & you will feel much better for it.

By next year you can make another resolution & this time you know you can stick with it. You can laugh to yourself when you see all the new people out walking their dogs & going on diets, that was me last year, but I made a difference to my life & I stuck to my plan. I have achieved what I set out to achieve & you should be so proud of yourself for that.

How to Get Around Excuses for Not Exercising

Over the years, there have been people making up plenty of excuses to avoid exercising. Some of these excuses are creative, some are ridicules, but most are in a group of common excuses used everyday to justify not having to make the effort to improve their health and well being.

How many people do you know who were going to start exercising and start getting in shape and they were going to start this coming week, but that was two weeks ago and they still haven’t started yet? What excuse did they have this time? Maybe this has happened so many times, you stopped counting. Maybe this has even happened to you more times than you can remember. Well, what’s stopping you?

Here are some of the most common excuses used by people to not exercise, and the ways that you can get around those excuses if they have plagued you and are stopping you from partaking in a healthier lifestyle.

By far and away, the most common excuse used today is; “I don’t have the time to exercise”. The old perception that you have to exercise for 1 to 2 hours a day is just nonsense. A good, solid exercise routine doesn’t have to last for more than 20 to 30 minutes a day to be very effective. If you can’t find up to 30 minutes a day to exercise, then how do you manage to find up to 2 hours or more a day to watch TV?

Another popular excuse used often is; “I can’t afford to pay for a gym membership or for home equipment”. The fact is, you can get in better shape and lose weight without ever setting foot in a gym. Walking and or jogging around your neighborhood or in the local park don’t cost a dime and will give you all of the benefits of a cardio workout at the gym. Doing callisthenic exercises such as crunches and pushups and so on at home also cost nothing. Home fitness equipment can also be purchased that will give you a good resistance workout for under $50.00 such as resistance tubing bands and an exercise ball.

“I don’t know how to exercise or what exercises to do” is an excuse that gets used from time to time, but there are several ways to learn how to exercise right and what exercises to do. Using the services of a qualified, certified personal trainer is the best way to get you going in the fight direction. If affordability is an issue with a trainer, there are workout videos and books that you can buy to help you out, you can even find loads of exercise books at your local library that you can check out free of charge.

Another excuse that seems to be fairly common is; “I’m too old and/or out of shape to start exercising”. This excuse is really only valid if your doctor has told you that you should not exercise for some medical reason. If you are very out of shape or you are a senior citizen, then you may just have to start out slowly. Even starting out with only 5 minutes a day of exercise and slowly increasing as you go is much better than doing no exercise at all.

Last but not least and by far my favorite excuse is; “I hate anything to do with exercise”. This one always gives me a laugh. Most people who really think they hate exercise do so because they are stuck with the image that exercise is a series of boring, grunt and groan exercises involving heavy weights, or jogging far enough to complete the Boston marathon. The old adage of “no pain, no gain” is still embedded in the minds of many people, and who wants to have to go through pain every day to get in better shape? Exercise is really all about getting active and getting your body moving. Even playing in a softball league or hiking on a trail or bicycle riding is good exercise. Just find activities that you like to do and you will find that exercise can be fun.

Ok, no more excuses. The time is now. Making the time to spend even 30 minutes a day to get active, get in some exercise, and get yourself more healthy and fit will by far be the best thing you can do for yourself and your family. Think of how much more you can enjoy doing the things you like to do when you are in better condition and better yet, think about how much more you can enjoy your children as they grow up and how much more you can enjoy your grandchildren later in life.
