Is your New Year’s Resolution Working

Every January millions of people make a New Years Resolution only to find a few weeks into the New Year, they are unable to stick to it. Are you a statistic this year or have you made a difference to your life.

Every year at this time of the year you see people who have started their New Year’s Resolutions. People have gone on a diet, started an exercise regime, given up smoking or decided that they will change their life in some way.

They have the motivation to start & have high expectations that this year it will work for them. They get up early & start walking the dog 5 days a week or start the latest diet craze. The first week is so easy. Your motivation is high & you feel great because you have started to follow through on your planned resolution.

Week 2 comes along & you think, I’ve been good for a week, one bad day won’t hurt me & the truth is one bad day won’t hurt you. It is the day after your bad day that will determine whether you will succeed with your New Year’s Resolution. If you overcome your bad day you make it to the next week.

By now you are at week 3, if you have made it this far you are doing great. You would already be feeling the effects of your new regime & will be feeling proud of yourself that you have stuck to your program.

But now you have to keep going. You start to realise that you really need to make a lifestyle change to keep your New Year’s Resolution. Are you prepared to make that change. If you are you will never look back. They say it takes 30 to 60 days to change a habit so stick to your program whatever it may be if you truly want to make this years Resolution Work.

If you have started a New Year’s resolution & are finding it hard to stick to or have already given up, think about giving it another go, you never know if you try hard enough, you may not have to make the same resolution next year & you will feel much better for it.

By next year you can make another resolution & this time you know you can stick with it. You can laugh to yourself when you see all the new people out walking their dogs & going on diets, that was me last year, but I made a difference to my life & I stuck to my plan. I have achieved what I set out to achieve & you should be so proud of yourself for that.

And They Said Spinach Was Suppose To Be Good For Us

This week, Spinach was disappearing from grocery store shelves faster than free candy at Halloween.

What was the cause? Producers and grocers were pulling pre packaged Spinach because of an E.coli outbreak.

Whos’ Affected?

As of this writing, the outbreak of E. coli in freshly packaged Spinach has spread to 19 states. The Spinach in question is the fresh pre-packaged type you buy in grocery stores. Also at risk is the Spinach in the pre-packages salad mixes as well as fresh Spinach served at restaurants.

The Spinach is believe to have come from California and contaminated in the field prior to packaging according to the Center For Disease Control and Prevention. There have been previous contamination of Spinach and Lettuce grown in California.

The outbreak has caused 102 people to become ill, 16 of which experienced kidney failure and one fatality as of this writing, a 77 year old lady from Wisconsin that died from kidney failure. Wisconsin accounts for a third of the reported cases. Other states reporting cases were California, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming, according to the CDC.

What Should You Do As A Consumer?

First, you may want to consider throwing any pre-packaged or fresh Spinach away, no matter which state you live in.

Second, The CDC says that boiling the Spinach may kill the E. coli but that washing it thoroughly WILL NOT eliminate of the bacteria.

What Is E. Coli?

E. coli is a form of bacteria that commonly lives in the lower intestines of mammals. It’s actually a beneficial bacteria and important in the digestive process.

However, there is one strain of E. coli that realease a toxin that can make people ill and in some cases, such as the very young, the elderly or those with weak immune systems, can cause death. The germ is present in uncooked beef, unpasteurized milk and juice, and on raw sprouts and lettuce.

The strain believed to be the culprit is these latest cases is E. coli 0157:H7 — a potentially deadly bacterium that causes bloody diarrhea and dehydration.

What Are The Symptoms?

E. coli can cause dehydration, abdominal cramps, severe, often bloody, diarrhea and kidney failure.

Many people will overcome E. coli in about 10 days. However, if you suspect you may have been contaminated, you should visit your doctor for further test. In some cases, especially with young children and older people, they may need to be hospitalized for kidney failure.

Until this latest scare is over and all affected produce has been found and eliminated, I plan on exchanging the Spinach in my salads for something else. The sad thing is for those of us who love fresh salads is that E. coli can contaminate other leafy foods such as lettuce.

At this point in time, a Hershey Bar looks like a safe (albeit diet busting) alternative!

10 Ways To A Healthier and Better You

1. Lose Weight 2. Take More Exercise 3. Eat sensibly, with a well balanced diet. 4. Look after your heart and it will look after you. 5. Increase your energy by speeding up your metabolism. 6. Be kind to yourself. Make time for you. 7. Be positive. Your thoughts are what make you what you are. 8. Enjoy Family Life, join in games and go out as a family. 9. Improve your knowledge; you are never too old to learn. 10. Drink more water, there are no calories in water.

Lose Weight

Lose weight by going on a safe weight loss plan. Just by losing weight, you will feel better and healthier. You will look good and feel great. That should be your Mantra. ‘I look good and I feel great.’

The main thing is to set your goals so that you lose weight, surely, safely and you will like what you see in the mirror. People will start complimenting you.

And you will be able to wear clothes you pushed to the back of your wardrobe, as they had shrunk. You might even find you have a brand new wardrobe.

Take More Exercise

If you are able, do more exercise to burn the calories. Walking is extremely good. Or put on a CD and dance to the music. Don’t put on fast music that you can’t keep up with. You don’t want to die of exhaustion.

Exercising will help you lose weight, increase your energy, and you will get the feel good feeling as your endorphins will come into play. Endorphins are your friends.

Eat Sensibly With A Well Balanced Diet

Eat a well balanced diet. Or if you do not eat as you should, use supplementation. Few people eat a well balanced diet. So by taking supplementation you will be getting all the right vitamins and minerals in the right amounts that your body needs.

Look After Your Heart and It Will Look After You

Your heart is the one thing that keeps you alive. Look after it and it will look after you. If it is too late and your heart is giving you problems eg High Blood Pressure, you need to take Omega 3, 6 and 9. Capsules are readily available from your Health Food Shop.

And most importantly, if your GP has prescribed medication, keep on taking them regularly, no matter how well you feel.

Increase Your Energy

Increase your energy by eating foods that help speed up your metabolism. Using the Mediterranean Diet is ideal. It will also help you to lose weight.

The Mediterranean Diet means you will be eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, especially dark green leafy ones.

Be Kind To Yourself by Making Time For You

Pamper yourself every so often. Love your self.

Spend an evening manicuring your nails, use a mudpack.

Put on your favourite music, or watch a video. The point is to choose what you want to listen to or watch, not what someone else tells you to do.

Get someone to give you a massage. Aromatherapy can be very beneficial.

You may have to promise to give him or her a massage in return. But not on the same night as your pampering session.

Be Positive. Your Thoughts Are What Make You What You Are

Keep a positive mental attitude. Don’t let negative thoughts take over your mind. When this happens, think of something good instead.

Keep telling yourself you feel wonderful, even if you don’t. If you tell your subconscious mind something enough times, as it does not reason, it will believe it to be the truth.

Enjoy Family Life

Enjoy family time. Show your family that you love them. Play games with the kids.

It is said that a family that play together stay together.

And arrange things so that you can spend an evening alone with your partner.

Improve Your Knowledge

Never stop learning. Be like a child, keep asking why. Curiosity does not kill the cat; it just makes it cleverer.

Drink More Water

Drink enough water to flush the toxins out of your body. Also not drinking enough water can cause you to be constipated.
